In February 2023, the efficiency measurement of unit TG1 in turbine and pump mode was carried out at PSHP Ružín (Slovakia) on the TG1 unit in turbine and pump mode. The Gibson method was applied as a primary method for flow measurement. In addition to efficiency, other parameters such as pressure pulsations, cavitation emission, vibrations (in cooperation with the operator´s vibro-diagnostic group) and also pressure losses at butterfly valves in front of the unit were evaluated.

The measurement has shown that the decrease in efficiency is minimal compared to the original machine parameters, but nowadays it is possible to achieve significantly higher efficiency. Based on results, it is recommended to extend a zone of draft tube aeration in turbine mode towards higher powers. It brings a reduction in pressure pulsations and vibrations.

The results of the measurement will serve the PSHP operator as a one of the bases for the planned unit refurbishment.
